Joseph Stiglitz
Joseph Stiglitz, born in 1943, laureate of the 2001 Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences, is a professor at Columbia University. He is the President of the International Economic Association (IEA) and the chairman of the University of Manchester Brooks World Poverty Institute. He was the chief economist of the World Bank and the chairman of the U.N. Commission on Reforms of the International Monetary and Financial System, as well as the chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers to the American Presidency. His latest book is: The Great Divide: Unequal Societies and What We Can Do About Them (2015). He has described the European austerity policies as a "suicide pact" (The Telegraph, January 17, 2012).
